Recreational Sports Injuries

September 24, 2014

The benefits of living an active lifestyle are becoming ever more widely known. As a result, our community is increasingly involved in sports and recreation. Most of us understand that there is an inherent or acceptable risk of injury associated with playing sports. We accept this risk in exchange for the fun and health benefits that we get from playing sports. What we do not count on are injuries that adversely and permanently affect our ability to work or lead a normal life.

The amount of inherent risk that we accept as part of our chosen sport or recreational pursuit is not limitless. We do not expect to be injured by contact that occurs outside the rules of the game. We do not expect to be injured because of equipment failure or unsafe products. We do not expect to be injured by the existence of improperly placed or poorly designed objects that exist within the field of play. We do not expect to encounter these types of dangers without receiving warning that these conditions exist.

Depending on the activity, participants, referees and umpires, organizers, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, facility owners, school boards, local authorities, and even spectators all have a duty to ensure that we are safe when we participate in our chosen events. If you or someone you know has suffered a serious sports injury it is important to consult with a personal injury lawyer in order to determine your legal rights, contact the Personal Injury Alliance HERE for a free consultation.
