The Certified Specialist Program is administered by the Law Society of Ontario. It recognizes lawyers who have demonstrated a high standard of knowledge, skill, and proficiency in a defined area of law through peer assessment and written examination. The designation is not awarded by peer vote alone – candidates must also pass a written examination and meet a minimum of five years of relevant practice experience. Fewer than 1,400 lawyers in Ontario hold any certified specialist designation across all practice areas.
The Personal Injury Alliance has lawyers who hold the Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation designation from the Law Society of Ontario – across Oatley Vigmond, McLeish Orlando, and Thomson Rogers LLP. Civil Litigation is the specialty designation most directly relevant to personal injury practice.
