Kevin Henderson
The son of a grocery store clerk, Kevin grew up outside of Perth, Ontario. He credits his humble beginnings with the development of his underdog mentality, an approach he has carried into his legal career.
He attended McMaster University for two years before being granted early admission to Osgoode Hall Law School. After being called to the bar in 2008, Kevin began practising law in Hamilton before joining a leading Toronto litigation firm, representing Canada’s largest insurance companies on personal injury actions. “I didn’t find it fulfilling,” Kevin recalls. “I was helping companies save money, when what I wanted to do was help the people going up against these major corporations.” Since joining Oatley Vigmond, Kevin has used his insurance-industry experience to protect his clients and recover the compensation they deserved. He’d been at Oatley Vigmond for two months when he settled a matter for a client at a mediation. “You felt the burden of the litigation, and her injuries, lifting off her. I wanted to help even more people experience the relief of having their uncertainty lifted.’”
Kevin promotes a calm and empathetic environment when working with his clients, encouraging them to share their worries with him whenever they crop up. Despite his welcoming demeanour, Kevin will never hesitate to go on the offensive when it comes to protecting his clients. “Personal injury cases are won by preparation,” he observes. “Effort is one of the few things in litigation we have control over. We get paid to win. And the only way I know how to win is to put in the time, and to know the case cold. Everyone says they want to be successful, but not a lot of people are willing to put in the work.”
One of Kevin’s best-known cases involved a $15-million settlement for a woman who was seriously injured when the vehicle in which she was a passenger collided with the back of a municipal snow plow driving without lights.
Kevin is a current member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, as well as a Director with the Simcoe County Law Association. When not practising law, Kevin enjoys travelling, working out and spending time with his family and his retired racing greyhound, Murphy.
